A royal residence with a french touch
The guided tour of Drottningholm Palace will take us a few kilometers from the city centre. This is where, surrounded by impressive gardens and the ominpresent Lake Mälaren, this important royal residence is located. An enchanting palace which was built according to french models. The Drottningholm Palace has seen numerous Swedish sovereigns alternate since the 17th century.
This palace speaks to us of Kings but above all Queens. It´s mainly the Queens who has left an indelible mark on the various rooms: their original use, arrangement, As well as the innumerable and contrasting decorative styles.
The Drottningholm Palace has been the main residence of our current Royal Family since 1981 and since 1991 the Drottningholm Palace, alongside the Royal Gardens, is included at UNESCOS World Heritage list.
The introductory tour of Drottningholm Palace will give you access to one of Sweden’s most well preserved Royal recidenses, dating from the 1600s.
During our tour we will tell you about the origins of the palace and how it has eveloped over the centuries. But not only that, there will be many curiosities and anecdotes about the Queens and Kings that the Drottningholm Palace has seen alternate over the centuries. The visit of the palace will be combined with a shorter walk in the Royal Gardens.
*This tour is only available during Saturdays and Sundays, from October-April. From May-September it’s available Mon-Sun.
To Drottningholm by boat
From May to October, Drottningholm Palace can be reached on board a former steam boat.
The crossing lasts about 60 minutes and the pier for departure is next to The City Hall in the city center.
